Single Case Agreements 101: Supporting Access To Therapy For Clients as an Out-of-Network Provider

About this course

This training is for clinicians who work in Out-Of-Network private practices and want to learn more about insurance advocacy. The goal of this training is to learn about the basic principles behind insurance policy exceptions, and WHEN and HOW they can be pursued. We will cover navigation of ethical considerations when advocating for clients, and will provide participants with tips and strategies to use throughout the process.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the 5 foundations of "Out-of-Network" insurance exceptions for clients
  • Differentiate between eligible and ineligible circumstances for clients seeking Out-of-network insurance coverage
  • Recognize and navigate ethical, clinical, and boundary considerations when advocating for clients

Learning Levels

  • Very Basic: If you have already been doing SCA work, you may find this training rudimentary.

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for administrators of mental health practices who are out of network with insurance panels but still wish to ease accessibly to care for their clients.

Course Instructor(s)

  • Molly Zametkin, LCSW-C

    Molly Zametkin, LCSW-C is a Social Worker from Maryland specializing in trauma, acute care, assessment, and insurance utilization review. Molly has worked in a variety of clinical settings including The National Institutes of Health (NIAAA, NIMH), DC and VA public schools, and PHP/IOP treatment. Molly is passionate about insurance advocacy, trauma-informed clinical practice, healthcare leadership, and holistic healthcare delivery.

  • Laura Goldstein, LCMFT

    Laura Goldstein is a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist in Rockville MD. She is the founder and Executive Director of Montgomery County Counseling Center and the founder of TheraCourses! She has worked across multiple settings including in-home behavioral health services, IOPS for adolescent dual diagnosis treatment and young adults struggling to launch, and her private practice. 

    Laura is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) from Behavioral Tech and has been fine tuning the application of DBT into individual therapy, parent coaching, and family therapy. She also trained in 2017 with The Gottman Couples Method, which is a seamless integration of DBT concepts when working with couples. With over 12 years of experience in the field, Laura has established herself as a local expert in relationship therapy, public speaking, and therapy practice management.

    In 2022, she launched TheraCourses, an e-course platform with innovative solutions to address the obstacles of accessing affordable psychoeducation that parents need in order to prevent and/or treat the adolescent mental health crisis we face today.

This training is intended to provide a broad overview of methods to advocate for clients for insurance coverage as an Out-of-Network provider. We do not provide advising nor training on matters considered to be under the jurisdiction of an insurance broker, and we solely cover subject matter within the scope and jurisdiction of mental health clinicians. This training is intended to provide entry level understanding of advocacy for clinicians and is not a replacement for clinical due diligence. All laws, regulations, and policies protected federally and locally related to this subject matter should be honored at all times. All insurance education should be used on a case-by-case basis in adherence with your clinician licensing body. This training only provides information about commercial insurance carriers, and cannot be applied to circumstances related to Medicare or Medicaid.
