Is It Emotional Dysregulation or Emotional Leakage? Choosing Between DBT and RO-DBT

CE Hours 1

About this course

Emotions don't always look the same, and neither should our treatment approaches. Some clients feel things intensely and express those emotions quickly, while others keep emotions tightly held until they start to seep out in unexpected ways. DBT and RO-DBT each offer unique tools for supporting these different patterns.

In this self-paced training, you'll explore the key differences between emotional dysregulation and emotional overcontrol. We'll walk through how each shows up and how to match clients with the approach that best supports their emotional needs.

Originally recorded live, this training is now part of our on-demand CE library. You'll have access to the course and all provided materials for 30 days after purchase. Watch on your own time, complete the short quiz, and earn CEs at your own pace.

Course Instructor(s)

  • Laura Goldstein, LCMFT

Laura Goldstein is a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist in Rockville MD. She is the founder and Executive Director of Montgomery County Counseling Center and the founder of TheraCourses! She has worked across multiple settings including in-home behavioral health services, IOPS for adolescent dual diagnosis treatment and young adults struggling to launch, and her private practice.

In 2022, she launched TheraCourses, an e-course platform with innovative solutions to address the obstacles of accessing affordable psychoeducation that parents need in order to prevent and/or treat the adolescent mental health crisis we face today.

Disclosure

The sponsor of this training, Montgomery County Counseling Center, is launching an RO-DBT program. Though this training is not intended as a specific advertisement of this offering, there certainly remains a financial benefit for Montgomery County Counseling Center if clinicians attending this training are able to more confidently refer clients to either our new RO-DBT program or our preexisting DBT progam!
