Dual Relationship Distress: Minimizing Burnout for Therapists Working with Teens & Their Families

CE Hours 1.5

About this course

Teen therapists and family therapists are at greatest risk for burnout because of the multiple roles they inherently have to navigate with the families they treat. Together, participants will learn strategies for mitigating this burnout by minimizing the dual relationship distress. We will also discuss a phasic approach for working with teens and families to improve clinical outcomes, protect rapport with both teens and parents alike, and collaborate with other professionals to support our work in this area.

Learning Objectives

  • Define and list the multiple roles that therapists play when treating adolescents and their families.
  • Analyze and discuss the clinical implications and burnout risks associated with dual relationships in adolescent therapy.
  • Utilize 10 strategies for minimizing burnout from dual relationships in adolescent therapy.
  • Assess and adapt the efficacy of their current treatment approaches using a model that implements these strategies.
